The teams will be back on the field Wednesday night for the second contest of their three-game series in Milwaukee.

"We've played a ​lot of good baseball the last several games," Wilson said postgame about the Mariners, who have won three of their ‌past five games. "We need to get back to that. This one, sometimes it goes this way. ... We've got to come back tomorrow and be ready to find a way."

Catcher Cal Raleigh certainly is ready to forget Tuesday's game.

"Just flush it," he said. "Obviously, you don't ever want to get beaten like that. But at the same time, ​move on, flush it, go to the next one."

It's a game the record books won't forget, though.

Milwaukee tied the franchise record ​for runs in a game, and the Mariners suffered the worst loss of their 50-year history. It was the ⁠biggest shutout put up by a home team since 1887.

The Brewers will seek their fifth victory in their past six games in an ​effort to pad their MLB-best 78-48 record.

A 1-0 Brewers lead heading into the fifth inning of Tuesday's series opener quickly got out of hand after ​a twin set of five-run innings in the fifth and sixth and nine scored off position-player pitcher Leo Rivas in the eighth.

All-Star second baseman Brice Turang was the only Milwaukee player without a hit on a night the Brewers turned out 22 of them.

"I'd like to order that every night," Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy deadpanned ​when asked about the offensive outburst.

"It's nice to see, as guys get more confident in the year and as guys understand themselves better at ​the plate," Murphy said in reference to less experienced players such as David Hamilton, who was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.

He has played in ‌298 career ⁠games.

Rookie outfielder Luis Lara, 21, hit his first career home run, off of Rivas in the nine-run eighth.

Lara was happy to have the milestone moment no matter how it came, telling reporters through an interpreter, "For me, it all counts."

The Mariners will try to dust themselves off as they turn to right-hander Logan Gilbert (9-7, 3.28 ERA) on Wednesday.

Gilbert is one of five qualified pitchers in MLB with a sub-1 WHIP (walks and hits per inning ​pitched). He lowered it to 0.991 ​after allowing four hits and one ⁠walk in six shutout innings against the New York Yankees on Thursday.

"I thought Logan was on top of his game," Wilson said after the team finished off a 1-0 victory.

"The execution of his pitches today, the ​quality of his pitches today was outstanding," Wilson added after the game, singling out the effectiveness of ​Gilbert's splitter and slider ⁠in particular.

Gilbert is 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA in three career starts against Milwaukee.

Dustin May (6-7, 4.13 ERA) will make his third career start for the Brewers. An acquisition from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline this month, May is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his first two starts ⁠with Milwaukee. ​He took a no-decision in his most recent outing at San Diego on Aug. ​12 despite giving up only one run in seven innings as the Padres won 4-3 in 11 innings.

May's only career appearance against Seattle came as a member of the Los ​Angeles Dodgers on April 19, 2021. He lost that game, allowing all four runs (three earned) in five innings in a 4-3 defeat.
