A U.S. government document approving $400 million aid to Ukraine has been edited and shared online to look like an approval for $8 billion military funds to Israel.
Social media accounts shared a photo of the altered document on Facebook and messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The photo shows a White House memorandum dated Oct. 7, 2023, which says U.S. President Joe Biden authorized the “drawdown of up to $8 billion in defense articles and the services of the Department of Defense” to help Israel.
However, the memorandum does not exist on the White House briefing room website.
The picture is an altered version of a memo sent July 25, 2023, authorizing $400 million of aid to Ukraine.
At least a further 500 people have been killed in retaliatory airstrikes from Israel.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
VERDICT
