British finance minister Jeremy Hunt on Friday distanced himself from interior minister Suella Braverman in her row with police over the handling of pro-Palestinian marches, saying he would not have used the words she did.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is under pressure to sack Braverman after she accused the police on Thursday of exhibiting a "double standard" in the way it treats protests, notably pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
"The words that she used are not words that I myself would have used," Hunt told reporters. "The prime minister said that he has full confidence in her and I have nothing further to add."
