India's infrastructure output (ININFR=ECI) expanded 5.4% year-on-year in July, slowing a tad from the previous month, according to the second release under a revised series, as iron ore and electricty output moderated.
With 2022-23 as the base year, the new series released last month by the government replaces the 2011-12 base year and expands the core sector basket to nine industries from eight, including iron ore.
Infrastructure output had grown a revised 6% in June from a year earlier, according to comparable data released by the government.
KEY NUMBERS
• Cement output rose 13.1% in July from a revised 9.9% increase in June.
• Steel production increased 2.9% last month, compared to a revised 5.6% growth in June.
• Electricity generation rose 9% in July, as compared to a revised 11.4% increase in June.
• Coal production rose 7.6% in July, compared to a rise of 1.4% the prior month.
• Iron ore production rose 29.5% in July, compared to a revised rise of 44.5% in June.
• Crude oil output fell 5.3% in July, compared to a fall of of 4.2% in June.
• Fertiliser production declined 8% in July, following a 3.3% contraction in the prior month.
• Natural gas production shrank 3.7% in July, as compared to a revised drop of 4.8% in June.
• Refinery products output rose 2.7% in July versus a revised 4% fall a month earlier.
• The cumulative infrastructure output growth for April-July increased year-on-year at 4.3% from 1.5% in the corresponding period last year.
