Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate to be the next central bank governor, a presidential spokesperson said on Monday.
Investors are closely monitoring the nomination process after Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo resigned suddenly late last month for personal reasons.
Destry, senior deputy governor since 2019, was the central bank's second most senior official when Warjiyo resigned and has been serving as interim governor. Reuters reported last week Destry was the frontrunner to take the job.
Prabowo was allowed to submit up to three names for governor, but since 2010 his predecessors have nominated only one to parliament, all of whom secured lawmakers' approval.
The parliament, controlled by Prabowo's big-tent coalition, has one month to approve or reject the candidate.
