The Boston Red Sox placed designated hitter Mastaka Yoshida (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list and right-hander Justin Slaten (elbow) on the 15-day IL on Sunday.

Slaten's placement on the IL is retroactive to Thursday. In corresponding moves, the Red ‌Sox recalled catcher Mickey Gasper and left-hander Raymond Burgos from Triple-A Worcester.

The Red Sox also sent veteran shortstop Trevor Story on a Triple-A rehab assignment. The 33-year-old, who started at shortstop on Sunday, is coming back from a sports hernia injury that hampered him for 41 games before he went on the IL.

Yoshida, 33, was injured while running to second base on a double in Boston's 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night. The veteran DH told reporters after the game that when he injured his hamstring while playing in Japan that he missed about a month.

Yoshida will undergo testing when the Red Sox return home from a road trip that ends Sunday with the series finale in Pittsburgh.

In his fourth season with Boston, Yoshida is hitting .274 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 87 games. Overall, ‌he is a .280 hitter with 34 home runs and 182 RBIs in 390 major league games, all with the Red Sox.

Slaten, 28, is 2-4 with a 4.60 ERA over 36 relief appearances this season, his third with the Red Sox. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Slaten is 10-10 with a 3.73 ERA in 116 relief outings with Boston.

The 30-year-old Gasper has played in 34 games with the Red Sox in 2026, hitting .243 with seven RBIs. In 92 games with the Red Sox (2024, 2026) and Minnesota Twins (2025), Gasper is a .186 hitter with two home runs and 16 RBIs.

Burgos, 27, pitched in two games for the Red Sox earlier this month, posting a 3.00 ERA in six innings. The native of Puerto Rico made his big-league debut in 2024 with the San Francisco Giants, allowing one run in one inning.
