The Cleveland Guardians placed first baseman Rhys Hoskins on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to lower back inflammation.
In a corresponding move, the Guardians recalled outfielder David Fry from Triple-A Columbus.
Hoskins, 33, last played on Tuesday, batting 1-for-4 in an 8-1 home win over the San Francisco Giants.
He is batting a career-low .179 (47-for-263) with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs in 95 games in his first season with Cleveland.
For his career, Hoskins is batting. .233 with 199 homers and 568 RBIs in 983 regular-season games for the Philadelphia Phillies (2017-22), Milwaukee Brewers (2024-25) and Guardians.
Philadelphia selected Hoskins in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Sacramento State.
Fry, 30, is batting .182 (26-for-143) with six homers and 13 RBIs in 71 games this season for the Guardians. He was sent down to Triple A when Cleveland acquired outfielder Jo Adell from the Los Angeles Angels and first baseman Nathaniel Lowe from the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 3.
Fry hit .294 in eight games with Columbus. After starting 0-for-9 in his first two contests, he went 10-for-24 with six homers and 18 RBIs in the last six games.
An All-Star in 2024, Fry is a career .225 hitter with 32 homers and 102 RBIs in 316 regular-season games with Cleveland since 2023.
