The Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins each will play two regular-season games in Germany in 2027-28, the league announced on Thursday.

The 2027 NHL Global Series Germany will see the Oilers playing in center Leon Draisaitl's hometown of Cologne ‌and the Bruins playing in JJ Peterka's hometown of Munich.

The game dates and the opponents for Edmonton and Boston will be announced at a later time.

"These events represent an important step in our commitment to grow the game in Germany," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said. "By bringing more NHL games to one of Europe's most dynamic hockey markets, we hope to continue to deepen engagement amongst our fans, partners and local communities, while at the same time creating a significant opportunity to grow the game throughout the country."

It will be the first time Cologne or Munich has hosted a regular-season NHL game.

"The NHL Global Series games in 2027 bring two of the NHL's best players in Leon Draisaitl and JJ Peterka back to play in front of their hometown fans," NHLPA executive director Marty Walsh said. "Germany has a proud hockey tradition, and these ‌NHL Global Series games are part of the League and NHLPA's ongoing commitment to build meaningful connections between NHL players and the German marketplace."

The NHL will have two games in Germany during the upcoming season, with the Ottawa Senators facing the Chicago Blackhawks in Dusseldorf on Dec. 18 and 20.

Those will be the first NHL regular-season games in Germany since the Buffalo Sabres played the Los Angeles Kings in Berlin on Oct. 8, 2011.

Draisaitl, 30, is the only German-born player with more than 1,000 points (1,053) in NHL history. The Oilers forward won the Hart Trophy as the league MVP in 2019-20 and the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy with a league-high 52 goals in 2024-25.

Peterka, 24, joined the Bruins in a June 26 trade from Utah after tallying 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) in 82 games with the Mammoth in 2025-26. He spent his first four NHL seasons with the Buffalo Sabres.
