A knife-wielding 20-year-old who fatally attacked a man and held others hostage in a bank in the western German city of Regensburg has been detained, local media and police said on Thursday.
The German national was led outside by police, ending a hostage situation that lasted several hours, the Passauer Neue Presse news outlet reported.
Two people who had been inside with the suspect were brought out by heavily armed police units, police said on X.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident and later died in hospital, police said.
Heavily armed police units, emergency services and negotiators had been deployed to the scene, while a police helicopter circled overhead.
PNP cited police as saying that a search of the building was ongoing.
