British Columbia declared a provincial state of emergency on Saturday as wildfires burned across western Canada, forcing thousands of residents to leave their homes as firefighters continued to fight the blazes.
"Homes have been lost, and properties have been destroyed. Some people became trapped as conditions changed very quickly, and needed to be rescued. It remains a very dynamic and threatening situation," B.C. Premier David Eby said in a press conference.
